New FB Ad library: Spy on your competitors. Has your FB Ads performance dropped? We got you

Where do you look for some inspiration for your ad creatives? Well, now you can add this huge library that has been released to your inspirational resources. You can find all the ads active on FB and peruse them at your leisure.

Seeing higher CPAs lately? The CPMs are mysteriously increasing, right? No, it’s not due to the end-of-the-quarter thing, and it turns out that there’s a pretty simple solution to fix this.

Let’s get on with it!

Ad performance drop

Have you noticed a drop in the performance of your FB campaigns lately?

According to Dimitri Nikolakakis, many marketers experienced a ridiculous performance drop. In some cases, marketers CPMs increased a massive 30%!

You might be thinking that this is connected with the end of the quarter, but that can’t be the only reason.

Well, Dimitri set out a solution to this and came up with a good explanation on how to handle the issue.

The solution is pretty simple too: Create a new ad account.

If you’re experiencing poor results lately, this will probably do the trick. It’s already worked for some advertisers, so if nothing else is working it’s definitely worth giving it a shot.

Here exactly what you need to do:

  1. Create a new ad account.
  2. Assign your current pixel to the new ad account.
  3. Share all of your audiences from your old account to your new one.
  4. Recreate your ads and go live.

Fingers crossed that your ROAS will skyrocket again!

Facebook launches Ad library

Where do you take inspiration for your ads from? If you’re not subscribed to some of the paid-for spying tools out there, nowadays it’s very hard to spy on your competitors’ creatives.

The AdEspresso library is down for a makeover. Other sources like and AdSwiper have been shut down.

Where do we go from here?

Well, it turns out that we should all turn to Facebook. Yep, Facebook itself!

In fact, what started as an effort to bring political transparency turned out to be a huge benefit for marketers.

Remember, in May 2018 FB released an Ad inventory containing all the ads related to political topics and issues of national interest?

Yes? No? It doesn’t matter.

What really matters is that now FB has updated that inventory and transformed it into an Ad Library including all the ads from all the pages active on its platform.

That’s right. All of them.

What does it mean for the average marketer though? That all the ads that you could previously find in the “Info and Ads” sections are now assorted in this new library.  Plus, you’ll even find the Instagram Ads.

Here is the info you can find in this new archive:

  • Page creation date, previous Page merges, and name changes.
  • Primary country location of people who manage a Page provided it has a large audience or runs ads related to politics or issues in select countries.
  • Advertiser spend information for ads related to politics or issues where the Ad Library Report is currently available.
  • Improved search in the Ad Library. Past user searches will be saved for people logged in to Facebook, and people can now search by Page rather than just keywords.
  • The ability to report ads from within the Ad Library.

Not only that, but FB claimed that they’re making other improvements too, especially for political ads. So the next updates won’t affect marketers directly.

However, this library itself might be a great resource for FB advertisers to find some inspiration, spy what others are doing and grow your ads’ swipe file.

Keeping your swipe file organized

If you are obsessed with copywriting, angles and creatives, you probably have a massive swipe file that includes all the ads you come across that you think might be useful for future reference.

But Bo van Wijngaarden has an interesting question about these swiped ads: How do you structure your swipe file?

Ben Opsahl, who we know to be a true copywriting geek, has come up with a pretty good system. He sorts his swipe file in 4 categories:

  • Vertical.
  • Niche.
  • Ad format.
  • Angle.

Every category is a subfolder of the previous one. So following his example: “If Health is the main folder, Keto would be a subfolder, then FB Ads / LPs / Emails would be subfolders of that, and the final level is grouped into angles.”

You can’t neglect the search function in these swipe file directories though. Remember, to have an efficient search function, you need a well-organized naming structure.

How should you name these docs? Another example from Ben:

“Keto – Native – WH – Advertorial – Hypnotize ancient DNA would be a white-hat Keto presell found on Native using a “hypnotize your fat using this ancient technique hidden in your DNA” angle.”

Pinterest says hola to new geos


Some of our readers interested in Pinterest Ads will be happy to hear this news! Now, thanks to a new expansion, many more businesses will be able to use Pinterest Ads.

Following the launch of ads in France last November, which was Pinterest’s first non-English speaking country, Pinterest has made advertising available for all businesses in Germany, Austria, Spain, and Italy.

Last month, Pinterest opened its ad platform to a small group of advertisers from Germany. Positive results from that test allowed Pinterest to make this rollout official in more European countries.

With this expansion, Pinterest Ads are now available in 11 countries including the existing markets in the US, UK, Canada, France, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Not just that, they have also launched test ads in the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and Switzerland. A full fledged launch in those countries could be on the agenda soon…

Reddit ad business growing

Reddit has invested extensive resources over the last year on improving its ad platform.
Many performance-oriented features, bidding strategies, media buying options, and an enhanced pixel were rolled out.

Fortunately for them, it looks like those efforts are paying off quite well!

As per the figures from eMarketer, its 2019 ad revenue is expected to bring in around $119M, up from $77 million in 2018. By 2021, these figures are expected to cross the $260M mark.

Plus, a major redesign of their website including the functionality to host images and videos on the site itself has given a major boost to its overall traffic and engagement.

Not to mention that the increasing dissatisfaction among users with Facebook, and its privacy issues, is helping Reddit’s growth too.

Reddit users, on the other hand, are anonymous, with accounts linked to usernames instead of real names. The platform also allows viewing by non-logged in users.

By 2023, Reddit’s logged-in audience is expected to account for nearly 12 percent of all U.S. internet users.

All things said and done, Reddit isn’t about to become one of the major internet ad players. It holds just a humble a 0.1–0.2 % share of the U.S. digital ad market.

However, Reddit users are highly engaged, tech-savvy users. Plus, many of them don’t use other social platforms.

This means that a large chunk of Redditors are unique users. With the new ad offerings rolled out last year and Reddit’s plans to broaden its advertising tools even more in 2019, advertisers have the potential to reach completely new audiences in a highly targeted way.

Adobe + Microsoft + LinkedIn = Improved ad targeting

LinkedIn has taken another step in their journey to enhance its ad targeting capabilities.

They announced a new partnership with Adobe to expand its account-based marketing capabilities to Adobe Experience Cloud users.

As per Adobe: “Adobe and Microsoft are aligning key data sources to populate account-based profiles in Adobe Experience Cloud, including Marketo Engage and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales. This will empower B2B marketers and sellers to easily identify, understand and engage B2B customer buying teams.”

LinkedIn’s Matched Audiences has now been integrated with Adobe Audience Manager and Marketo Engage. These combined account-based targeting capabilities will help marketers identify the right contacts and accounts to reach on LinkedIn.


A new Search Engine on the cards?

Ahrefs, a very popular SEO tools provider wants to compete with Google by building its own search engine.

But why the sudden decision to build a new search engine?

According to the CEO of Ahrefs, Dmitry Gerasimenko, there are 2 reasons for this:

  • Privacy. A focus area on which DuckDuckGo has already locked horns with Google on the proposition of not using user data for revenue.
  • Revenue sharing. To share the earnings with publishers whose content appears in the search results. The profit share would be a 90/10 split, where the publishers take 90 percent.

Is it actually possible to challenge Google?

Thanks to their highly rated SEO tools, Ahrefs already has heaps of experience and resources devoted to crawling the web. They understand how search engines work and have a giant database of links. Basically, they know the metrics that influence search engine ranking.

But competing with the likes of Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo and others out there… Well, it sounds like an ambitious project doesn’t it? We have seen many search engines go through the cycle of launching, failing and going out of business in the blink of an eye.

Ahrefs know their stuff though, so it will be interesting to watch their approach towards this and if it can actually lead to anything.

$3.64M fines for 4 robocalling companies

Remember that guy that made a lot of Benjis sending fake invoices to Google and Facebook? Turns out that he’s not the only one taking advantage of these internet giants to make fat and dirty gains.

This time, it’s the turn of four robo-calling companies.

These businesses used bot calls claiming to be from Google “data service providers” or “authorized Google My Business agencies.”

Business owners were told that they were going to be listed as “permanently closed” in Google search results. Obviously, they were then asked for payments to keep the listings online.

When businesses paid, they went on to ask for even more money to improve their listing. Talk about upselling, eh?

However, the game ended when the Federal Trade Commission filed suits against these four companies and shut the shady guys down.

The fines range from $500K to $3.64M and the owners of said companies won’t be able to run any further robocall operations.

This looks like a next-generation fraud: Using bots’ power to scam people.
