CONFERENCES
We asked, you delivered! The “Is It Still On” website for affiliate conferences
OK, that was really quick. Yesterday we asked if someone could create something similar to “Is It Cancelled Yet” but focused on events in our industry.
Well, one of our wonderful readers, Thomas, instantly delivered. Check out “Is It Still On” to keep track of all affiliate industry events that could be affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Make sure to keep us up to date if you have any breaking news about events. We’re always happy to give a quick update about any marketing related event that could be of interest to you ladies and gents.
FROM THE CREW
Have a laugh, it’s from The Crew!
Ever wondered how all those “normal people” feel like? You know, those people that aren’t marketers armed with all that knowledge of retargeting.
This 15s video sums it up pretty well, we think. Best enjoyed with sound on! Check it out on your preferred social app:
They say laughter is the best medicine, so we’ll continue to release some (hopefully even better) short videos later this week.
E-COMMERCE
LTV is becoming 2020’s e-comm mantra. But a “lifetime” is too long to wait for your pockets
Digital advertising is getting more and more expensive, and going ROI-positive on the front end is a tough job! This is especially true for DTC brands, and these brands are also feeling increasingly threatened by the increasing growth of microbrands.
We’re entering (or maybe we have already?) the post-acquisition future, and this post from Common Thread highlights the trends that will shape the future of the e-commerce industry.
- In the end, DTC brands will beat DNVBs (digitally native vertical brands).
- Why companies shouldn’t ditch offline sales and the data that proves it.
- Brands shouldn’t waste time to find an alternative to Facebook and Instagram, because there isn’t one. So what should they do instead?
- The small tactics that produce big results!
- Social commerce and in-app purchases is not what consumers really want.
- In one sense, LTV is the single most important business metric. In another, it’s meaningless. A lifetime is too long to wait.
Plus much more. It’s a long, long read and, if you’re into e-commerce, you should probably give it a look!
How to get trending on Reddit, the media buyer way
It’s simple… You buy the ads on the Trending section of Reddit!
OK, for those of you less familiar with the platform, Reddit refers to itself as the front page of the Internet. It has about 430M monthly active users and countless communities, called subreddits, each of which has its own culture.
We’ve talked about using Reddit Ads before, and now the news is that some of the most valuable placement money can buy is open for (some) advertisers.
There’s a catch though… A campaign on the Trending Takeover placement can only last 24 hours. Hey, that’s why it’s called trending, right?
Where is this helpful? With 100k+ active communities, the only limit is your imagination. Whether you’re promoting gardening, health, gadgets, education, adult, etc. There’s a community on Reddit for it!

Google+Facebook strategies to add $18k in margins to a digital product biz
Tomasz Babiec shared a post showing how he grew the margins of a digital product by 59.4% in just one month. It covers both their Facebook and Google advertising strategies.
Let’s just dive into it.
+ He started by cleaning up the messed up FB and Google ad accounts. They adjusted things like audiences targeting overlapping, keywords for Google Ads, and shut down camps that weren’t hitting the KPIs.
+ Creatives: This is mostly about FB, and they did exactly what most of us would do: Start replacing Image ads with Video Ads. Here’s their process for creating converting Video Ads:
- Immediately show what the product is and why people should care.
- Use the top and bottom part of the video to insert additional captions, benefits, social proof and credibility stats. For example, “Trusted by 1k customers”.
- Use big captions in the video to ensure they’re easy to read on mobile devices.
- Use high-quality footage.
+ Facebook targeting: Here they just let ML and AI do the work:
- Targeted large audiences, starting in the region of 20M and going all the way up to 300M. The target is global.
- They stacked multiple Interests in one ad set.
- The only LLA that outperformed Interest was a value-based purchases LLA.
- For the retargeting, they followed a similar approach: Hit large audiences such as 45-day Website Visitors or 60-day Page engagers.
+ Google targeting:
- YouTube cold audiences: Here he used the In-market and Affinity Audiences from Google Analytics and Custom Affinity Audiences with visits on competitors’ URLs.
- YouTube retargeting: All Video Ads viewers and past customers.
- Search: This is basic, they just hit relevant keywords.
- Google Display Ads: This channel was used for retargeting warm audiences, such as ATCs.
That is all. Every now and again, it’s interesting to dive into a case study that utilizes two different platforms.
ROUNDING UP THE STACK
- WITTER: Jack Dorsey seemed in danger of being fired from his position as CEO of Twitter. Well, he got some good news and seems safe… For now!
- AMAZON: Ever been to an Amazon Go store? Those ones where you can walk in and out without even visiting a cashier? Well, the tech is called Just Walk Out, and now others can use it too.
- FACEBOOK + IG: It’s for both… Because FB is testing cross-posting Facebook Stories to Instagram Stories rather than just vice-versa.
- CORONAVIRUS: The whole of Italy is in lockdown now. Not industry specific, but highly relevant to many!
- SEO: “People also ask” boxes aren’t showing so often lately. RankRanger says it only shows for 40% of queries, dropping from a previous rate of 52%.
- TIKTOK: The app is letting users link their videos to Wikipedia, Tripadvisor and Yelp URLs.

POOLSIDE CHAT
Cool tech, (funny) business, lifestyle and all the other things affiliates like to chat about while sipping cocktails by the pool.
Planning to go to Israel? Prepare for 14 days of “alone time”
We usually want to give you some relaxing, lighthearted and generally pleasant news in this section, but this time around we felt it was important to mention this.
“After a day of complex discussions, we made a decision: everyone who comes to Israel from abroad will enter the 14-day isolation,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.
Whether they’re foreigners or Israeli citizens, this applies to both.
Yeah, we’re kind of tired of the topic too, but marketers tend to travel much more than the average person and we thought it important to keep you updated.
Speaking of which, if you want to stay informed regarding COVID-19 updates from all around the world, the Worldometers website seems like the best option… At least from the ones we’ve found so far.
Have a look here and stay safe!
