Pinterest’s user base keeps growing. Bluesky’s? Not so much

It’s a tale of two platforms. One is racking up users while the other is… not.

Let’s start with the first one: Pinterest’s monthly active user base grew 11% last quarter, hitting 498M.

For perspective, that means Pinterest has had seven consecutive quarters of positive growth, mostly from Europe.

That’s great if you use the platform to reach shoppers, and even better if you have an EU audience.

Now, North America still has Europe beat when it comes to revenue per user.

But EU revenue increased by 23% per user year over year (YoY) in Q4, and 15% for the whole year.

Pinterest is also partnering up with Google to host Google-powered ads, which could give your PPC and Search campaigns more impressions and leverage.

Womp womp: Last week Bluesky opened up its platform to all users, and… well, here’s how that’s gone so far:

  • Bluesky got 31K downloads the first day, 104K downloads the second. By contrast, X gets about 280K per day.
  • Most downloads came from Japan and the US.
  • Bluesky is currently ranked #228 in the App Store and #97 on Google Play.

Normally we’d expect a platform like this to see a surge in downloads after being opened up to a global audience, but that’s not happening here.

… Good to know if you’re interested in using Bluesky as a new marketing channel.
