⛔Deepfakes.

Good morning.

Congratulations to Spain on winning the FIFA World Cup. It took 106 minutes, two hydration breaks, a halftime show, and what Ferran Torres called a goal scored by 47 million people.

We did the math. That’s roughly 0.00000002 goals per person.

Teamwork really does make the dream work. Now, about your Monday to-do list…

Relevance beats volume, TikTok guards against deepfakes, and two giants go dark

Turns out the AI content arms race has a plot twist: winning isn’t about who ships the most.

More isn’t merrier: A new WARC-and-TikTok study found the brands winning with AI aren’t cranking out the most assets. They’re learning fastest from their communities.

AI accelerates ideas, but it needs real cultural context to land. And 76% users say TikTok is the main trend discovery platform, with 83% saying that it is where the biggest trends start.

Instead of chasing quotas, search for these signals that you can later feed to.

Same platform, new bouncer: TikTok is also testing an opt-in tool that scans for unauthorized AI deepfakes of creators and lets them report the fakes.

If you or your partners have a public face, likeness protection is quietly becoming a standard feature worth switching on.

Brussels wants receipts: The EU accepted X’s action plan to meet Digital Services Act transparency rules, complete with an independent audit and a six-month deadline.

More public visibility into X’s systems is coming. Worth noting if brand safety factors into your channel mix.

And a quick heads-up: X stumbled on Sunday, and Meta went dark globally for about two hours this weekend.

So if your traffic dipped or a post refused to load, it probably wasn’t you.

YouTube piles on the ads, Apple Maps picks its favorites, and Demand Gen goes off-menu

Three platforms, three very different ideas about how much is too much.

Skip button, we hardly knew ye: YouTube is cramming three ads back-to-back and interrupting videos every few minutes, hitting free and Premium Lite viewers alike.

A test to see what the limit is or something that is rolling out step-by-step?

If this becomes more, you have more slots to buy, but fatigue may come fast. Watch whether the extra load dilutes the attention you’re paying for.

Apple Maps has a guest list: Ads land soon in the US and Canada, with a single sponsored pin per search and a firm no to home services, bail bonds, and crypto ATMs.

If you’re a visit-based business like a restaurant, store, café, you should claim and verify your listing now to grab that one prominent spot.

Google goes off the retail script: Demand Gen now accepts business data feeds without Merchant Center, opening dynamic ads to travel, real estate, and automotive.

Structured data does the creative heavy lifting, which means less manual updating, more relevance. It’s Display Network only for now, but a clear sign Demand Gen is growing past ecommerce.

You might notice the theme: Every platform’s redrawing the lines on where and how often your ads show up. And it’s up to you to keep track.

What if doing nothing beat 90% of professional fund managers?

The investment industry sells complexity. Research. Timing. Alpha.

The data tells a different story. Over any 20-year period, a simple world index fund has outperformed more than 90% of professionals. Most investors who try to beat the market end up paying more in fees to underperform it.

The edge isn’t intelligence. It’s patience.

But patience is hard when your portfolio feels abstract. A passive fund is just a ticker on a screen. The thousands of companies inside it, the businesses you actually co-own, stay invisible.

90 Percent fixes that. Every week, it pulls one company at random from the world equity index and tells you what it actually does.

One company. Every week. Yours to discover.

This leak may help decode Google’s 2026 ranking factors

Ever wish someone would just tell you what Google values when it comes to ranking?

Thanks to Tom Demers at WordStream, who dug through the May 2024 Content Warehouse API leak, we’ve got the closest thing to a straight answer.

Over 14,000 attributes boil down to five buckets.

1) Authority is a reputation. Domain authority runs on siteAuthority (domain-level PageRank) and chromeInTotal—yes, Google watched Chrome data despite denying it for a decade).

No on-page trick here. Build it through digital PR, research-backed content journalists want to cite, and link building.

2) Pick a lane and own it. Topical authority is measured by siteFocusScore and siteRadius.

Sites that wander get weighted down. Double down on your core topic, then prune or redirect the off-topic pages dragging you down.

3) Could a robot have written your page? Document quality maps to contentEffort, titlematchScore, and pandaDemotion. contentEffort is an LLM-based estimate of human effort.

So ask yourself: could AI have generated this from the same prompt?

Front-load proprietary data. Add named authors. Write in first person from real expertise (“we tested 350+ mattresses” beats “according to studies”). Show your methodology, and swap stock photos for charts you built.

Our take: Information gain is the whole game. Give readers something they can’t get anywhere else in the SERP.

4) Fresh means fresh, not a date swap: Freshness maps to lastSignificantUpdate, and Google can tell a real update from a cosmetic date change.

Use the 30% rule: a republish should reflect roughly 30% new content. Refresh priority pages every three to six months.

5) Make the click stick: Engagement runs on navBoost (confirmed under DOJ oath), clutterScore, and the mobile interstitial flag. navBoost weighs good clicks against pogo-sticks over a rolling 13-month window.

Build interactive tools, then audit the pop-ups intercepting users. Aim to be the last result the user ever needs to open.

So where do you start? Match your symptom to the fix. Not converting? Engagement. Reads as if a robot wrote it? Document quality. Plug the biggest leak first.

We’d recommend reading the full article by Tom; it’s a thorough one.

The future of advertising? AI will have a say

The customer journey is about to get a lot shorter and a whole lot more unpredictable.

Conversational interfaces are moving into the palace and traditional search’s crown might be slipping as a result:

The next 2-3 years will see a total reconfiguration of digital space.

  • 64% of marketers expect a reduced use of traditional search engines like Google.
  • 50% predict an increased use of AI chatbots and conversational interfaces as the primary entry point for users.
  • 43% foresee shorter consumer journeys due to AI-assisted decision-making, which means your ads have less time to make an impression.

The behavior will shift from “search and find” to “ask and receive,” which will fragment the journey but also make it more personal.

Our advice? Something that you’re probably hearing a lot. Experiment with AI-powered marketing as much as possible.

That’s it. That’s the tip.

SEO: “Are you a bot” screen might be quietly tanking your rankings. John Mueller warns bot-protection interstitials can get served to Googlebot, dropping your real content or handing canonical status to a rival site. Check Search Console’s URL Inspection tool.

AI OVERVIEWS: Big number, no receipts. Nick Fox claims AI features now send billions of weekly clicks to sites, but there’s no baseline, methodology, or way to check it. Search Console’s new AI reports hand you impressions only. Google keeps the data. For now.
