Three ways to turn messy research into valuable content
Learn how to transform research documents into videos, sales presentations and structured data tables using Google's NotebookLM without a production team.

Information grows faster than our ability to use it.
Industry reports, competitor analyses, long-form articles, webinar transcripts… all of it lands in a folder somewhere with insights that never make it into a single campaign. Ah, the pain.
But Google’s NotebookLM might have the cure for pain.
This is how: It takes your source materials: documents, reports, articles—and transforms them into completely new content formats.
Feed it a document, get back a video script, a sales deck, or a structured data sheet. You don’t have to copy-paste to no end or start from scratch every time.
Today, we’ll cover three tactics that each put NotebookLM to work directly inside your online marketing workflow. Let’s start.
Turn your research into video with Cinematic Video Overviews
Video production is arguably the biggest pain point in marketing. Agreed?
It’s highly engaging, sure. But it eats time and requires production resources most marketing teams simply don’t have on standby.
The solution? The Cinematic Video Overviews feature. It automatically transforms your documents, notes, or reports into short videos with full narration and visual storytelling.
The system analyzes your sources, identifies the key ideas, builds a narrative, and outputs a dynamic video.
What does it mean for you? Your raw research becomes ready-to-publish content.
Do it now:
- Prep structured sources: Feed NotebookLM rich, structured materials like research papers, reports, detailed notes, interview transcripts, or articles with clear headers.
- Mix your inputs: More context equals better visuals and narration. The golden mix: one main document, two to three articles, one data table, and a slide deck with key points.
- Always use a custom prompt: The default one-click option is okay, but a detailed prompt drastically improves output quality. Try the exact prompt we used:
“Create a cinematic video overview about the most important online marketing trends for 2026. Focus on the major shifts shaping digital marketing: AI-driven content creation, the rise of short-form video, search changing because of AI assistants, the growth of creator-led brands, and data-driven personalization. The video should explain why these trends matter for companies building their own brand and competing online. Show practical examples of how businesses can adapt their marketing strategies. Keep the tone educational but dynamic, as if it were a short documentary about the future of marketing. The goal is to help marketers quickly understand where the industry is heading and what they should start testing today.”
Optimize for the platform: Tell the AI where the video is going so it adjusts pacing and information density.
For Shorts/TikTok: ask for fast cuts, high energy, and a three-second hook.
For LinkedIn: request a professional tone, a B2B narrative, and a subtle CTA.
For YouTube: ask for deeper detail and a chapter-like visual structure.
Pro tip: Before generating the video, ask NotebookLM to surface the most surprising or counterintuitive facts from your sources. Then push further.
Tell it to highlight contradictions, disagreements, and knowledge gaps between them. It’s the fastest way we know to extract serious intellectual value in just a few minutes.
Build sales decks faster with Slide Revisions

Presentations are the backbone of marketing and sales.
But when you want to put them together, you’ll encounter too many tedious iterations and too much reformatting. That’s a lot of time you waste on slides that should’ve taken you minutes.
NotebookLM’s Slide Revisions can save you that time.
How it works: The feature automatically creates and refines presentations based entirely on your uploaded source materials.
The AI analyzes your documents, reorganizes the information into logical slides, strips out the fluff, restructures the flow, and surfaces the key takeaways.
What it means: For you, a dramatic acceleration of sales collateral production. Nice, right?
Playbook:
- Batch your edits: Regenerating the whole deck after a single change is a massive time killer. In Revise Mode, go slide by slide, type your tweaks, and queue them under “Pending Changes.” Wait until you have five to fifteen edits stacked up before clicking “Generate new deck.” We’re serious, this one habit alone will save you hours.
- Keep visual changes gradual: Don’t ask for a complete overhaul in one shot. Requests like “make the whole deck brand colors, minimalist style, and add flowcharts” tend to break the layout. Make visual changes incrementally.
- Be hyper-specific with your prompts: “Make slide 4 better” tells the AI nothing useful. Tell it exactly what you want: “On slide 4, change the title from ‘Market Overview’ to ‘2026 Digital Trends’, make the font bold 48pt, remove the bottom text, and add a four-point timeline.”
- Keep your prompts simple: The best results come from clear, direct instructions. Skip the convoluted phrasing because it doesn’t help. And it usually hurts.
Pro tip: The real catch here is repurposing.
The same source material can be processed multiple times to instantly generate different presentation versions. One tailored for a client, one for an investor, one for your internal sales team.
One research, three different assets. That’s the kind of leverage we’re here for.
Turn information chaos into marketing data with Data Tables
Marketing runs on data. But that data rarely lives in one place.
That’s a problem. It’s scattered across massive PDF reports, industry articles, competitor tear-downs, and campaign results. In theory, it’s useful. But it’s inaccessible in practice.
Enter Data Tables.
What does it do: It automatically extracts data from those messy sources and organizes it into clean, readable tables you can export and actually work with.
The system analyzes your texts, documents, or videos and builds a data structure in seconds.
Why that’s good: You’ll shrink the distance between raw research and real analysis to almost nothing.
Step by step:
- Write a custom prompt: The default prompt is far too generic. Without specific instructions, NotebookLM will build a basic table out of whatever it randomly decides is “most important.” Don’t leave that call to chance.
- Select only the necessary sources: If you have ten or more documents uploaded, uncheck the irrelevant ones before generating. The AI processes everything you select, meaning one mismatched PDF can corrupt your entire table with false rows or columns.
- Demand specific table structures: Tell the AI exactly which data points and columns you need. This single step has the biggest impact on output quality.
- Export to Google Sheets immediately: Click the Sheets icon and your table opens as a new, auto-saved spreadsheet in your Drive. NotebookLM won’t let you edit individual cells inside the app, so treat it as your generator and Sheets as your editor—where you sort, filter, and add formulas.
The proof is in the output. See how NotebookLM structured a massive dataset from a Wikipedia page about the Oscars in seconds flat.
And when you build automations on top of this workflow, the time savings stack up fast. We’re talking hours of manual grunt work eliminated per week.
Put your data to work
If you’re sitting on a goldmine research and never actually use it… what are you doing?
That data is ready for you to turn into valuable insights. Otherwise, your campaign will never amount to their true potential. These three features help you do just that.
In short:
- Cinematic Video Overviews turn flat PDFs into ready-to-publish video assets.
- Slide Revisions structure and format your sales decks in bulk.
- Data Tables pull numbers scattered across files straight into Google Sheets.
None of this requires a production team, a data analyst, or a full afternoon blocked off in your calendar.
You just need a well-structured source, prompts, and about five minutes. Oh, and of course, a will to put all this to work.
