A SERPs insight and bug fix, and an end to cache updates in Search Console

Question: How many links from unique domains does your site have?

If it’s less than 1,000, you probably won’t make it into Google’s top 10 in SERPs.

Yep. According to an analysis of 1,113 unique websites, only 4% of websites with less than 1,000 backlinks made the top ten, and 0.3% with less than 100 backlinks. None had less than 50.

So while Google claims backlinks aren’t among the most crucial ranking signals, clearly, the more you have, the better your chances of ranking.

Something to think about…

It’s about time: Google finally fixed a SERP issue where site names were not appearing when an inner page also ranked.

The internal page that ranked might have shown a site name different from a regular website search.

We don’t know why this bug happened—or why it took so long to fix—but the day has finally come. Yay!

Chop chop: Also, Search Console dropped its cache updates, which suggests it could soon drop the cache tool altogether.

However, you can still get snippet updates if you request them, and you can also manually access the cache option directly if needed. So there’s that.
