Safari is removing “distracting” website features

And for better or worse for marketers, users get to choose which.

Go away: Safari is releasing a new feature with the developer beta release of iOS 18 that limits “distractions” for users when they’re browsing websites.

How? Via the page menu, users can choose which page elements they want to hide, and Safari will remember it for their next visit.

Yes, users can reinstate these elements by tapping the “Show hidden items” button in the search field if they choose.

Does this mean people can “delete” your ads? Apple has said that it won’t remove ads or “frequently changing content,” but we’ll believe it when we see it.

… Especially since it’s unclear whether users will be able to remove “Who to follow”-like sections.

We’ll keep you posted.
