How ChatGPT helps writing copywriting analogies

A while back, we came across a line of copy we found fascinating.

“Washing your face with your hands… is like brushing your teeth with your fingers.”

Now that’s a scroll-stopper.

It’s the kind of creativity that takes you back to advertising from the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Not the sort of thing we’re used to seeing in digital copy.

And it’s a negative analogy, the type of analogy that raises a problem.

How to use ChatGPT to come up with a copywriting analogy

Want to write your own copy like this? Here’s one way to do it.

Feed ChatGPT this prompt: “Create a negative analogy from a phrase.

For example: Phrase: Washing your face with your face. Analogy: … Is like brushing your teeth with your fingers.”

Cool. Now ChatGPT knows what sort of analogy we’re looking for.

Instruct ChatGPT to give you negative analogies for each phrase you enter. This can be a short, one or two-sentence prompt.

It helps if you ask ChatGPT to use simple words that a 10-year old could understand.

Give ChatGPT the bad alternatives to using your product. In other words, provide the first half of your negative analogy.

The end result is something like this…

“Staying on top of marketing news without Stacked Marketer is like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded.”

Pretty cool, right?

It’s not perfect, but using ChatGPT in this way can help spark your own creativity for the copy you’re writing.

Try it out and let us know how it goes!
