Adieu to ad customizers and an ad API, but hello to big ad revenue numbers

A decade ago, Google launched ad customizers.

And on May 31, they’re disappearing forever. Yep, customizers for text ads, expanded text ads, and Dynamic Search Ads will all stop serving.

After which, they will only serve with their default value. Consider this your warning.

Another goodbye: On June 5, Google Ads API v14 will be bidding us farewell, too.

If you want to keep your API access safe, migrate to the new version before your v14 requests start failing. As always, Google has resources here to help you out.

Let’s end on a high note: US search ad revenue has hit a new record.

In 2023, search ads accounted for $88.8B, a 5.2% growth year on year (YoY).

Even though paid search is becoming more and more expensive, it still owns the largest market share of advertising. And it drives serious results.

Other interesting stats from last year:

  • Social media ad revenue rose by 8.7%.
  • Video advertising accounted for 23.2% of ad revenue.
  • Q4 had the highest growth rate—no surprises there, of course.
