Instagram is changing its algorithm to help the little guy

Are the tables turning? Maybe…

Instagram is planning to change its algorithm so that smaller creators get more reach.

Users have been criticizing the platform for some time now, claiming their posts have been negatively impacted by the algorithm.

So, what’s changing, exactly? Here’s what Instagram has shared so far:

  • If multiple pieces of identical content get posted, only the original will be recommended.
  • Reposted content will have a label that links to the original creator.
  • Instagram is cracking down on meme pages and profiles that repost creators’ content, which means their content won’t be shown in recommendations.

Also, your top-performing Reels will finally start getting pushed to a wider audience.

When the algo’s changing: Supposedly over the next few months. We’ll keep you posted.

When it does change, it’ll be interesting to see how it affects your impressions and engagement.
