The younger generation uses TikTok, YouTube, and AI to search

Not all the time. But frequently enough that it’s worth noting…

Less than half of those aged 18–24 begin search journeys on Google. Meanwhile, 21% start on TikTok, and 5% start on YouTube.

Why? It might be because the younger people get more genuine answers on social media compared to the sponsored results on search engines.

Google may be the reigning champion for now, but keep your eye on Gen Z’s behavior.

Speaking of which, Gen Z also claims to be more satisfied with Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE)…

… Which is probably why it’s growing: Over the coming months, you can expect to see big changes for SGE. CEO Sundar Pichai said recently that AI is simply the natural progression of search.

According to Sundar, even though AI produces simple answers, people will still want to dive deeper into topics and seek different viewpoints.

Hopefully that means as long as you keep producing unique and helpful content, there will always be searchers who need you.
