What’s the worst piece of marketing advice you’ve ever received?
Someone recently posed the question in our Stacked Marketer Pro community, and we thought we’d share some of the answers here.
The worst piece of marketing advice we’ve received
Bad advice #1: If your product is good, it’ll sell itself. People who tout this sort of thing will often point to people like Steve Jobs or Elon Musk.
And that’s ironic, because both of them did, and do, a lot of marketing.
Bad advice #2: Big brands don’t know what they’re doing. There’s a scrappy small-team mindset that the big companies are getting it all wrong.
Truth is, they’ve got Everest-sized budgets and the capacity to test way more things. So, yeah, they’re usually doing a lot right.
Bad advice #3: Nobody reads emails. Our founder, Manu, said he’s heard this advice numerous times, even after starting Stacked Marketer.
If you’re reading this, you’re the only proof that’s needed to refute this advice.
Bad advice #4: You can’t get clients with cold emails. This is strangely common advice in certain circles.
It’s not only objectively wrong, it’s weird advice to give. Why not let people try things for themselves and see how it goes?
